3 Ways Parents Sabotage Their Children's Sleep (Part 2)

I was at the grocery store not too long ago with my daughter (age 8). If I’m being honest, she was getting on my nerves a little, so I told her to go to the end of the aisle and pick out a new toothbrush. I figured this would get me a few seconds of (relative) peace and quiet.

It was kind of funny to watch her. She got down to where the toothbrushes were, and was faced with a huge wall of choices.

There are, what, at least 100 different kinds of toothbrush to choose from these days?

She seemed completely bewildered. After a minute or so, I walked down the aisle to help her. When I walked up, she said:

“Holy cow, Mom! How the heck am I supposed to know which is the right one?!

I laughed, but it also got me to thinking about another reason parents accidentally sabotage their children’s sleep:

INFORMATION OVERLOAD

I just went to Amazon’s website, typed in “baby sleep book,” and it told me there were 2,978 titles to choose from:

Not enough information for you? Good news! There are half a BILLION websites, forum discussions, and other spots on the Internet where self-proclaimed experts will claim to know the “best way” to get your child sleeping:

On top of all this, there’s the free “advice” that you’ll hear from all your friends, co-workers, in-laws, and strangers at the park!

And the worst part?  It’s that most people set up the conversation around sleep as an “us versus them” thing…

You know what I mean, right?

The one side says that only a heartless monster would let their child cry…

… while the other side warns that a baby who is soothed and cuddled at night will never learn how to be independent!

Well, I don’t like to play that game. My only goal is to help you get your child sleeping 11 or 12 hours straight through the night.

And I know darn well that the only way that’s going to happen is if I give you a system that you feel comfortable using with YOUR child.

So my here’s my promise to you: If you decide to give The Sleep Sense Program a try, I will not try to scare, shame, or guilt you into doing things a certain way.
